Coupon policy FAQ — how to coupon at CVS

Any coupons and ExtraBucks Rewards® that print at the ExtraCare Coupon Center or that are featured on your printed or digital receipt are considered ExtraCare coupons. ExtraCare coupons are also available in the CVS Pharmacy® app or on CVS.com®. ExtraBucks Rewards may be earned via 2% back on qualifying purchases, items advertised in print and online weekly ads, and ExtraCare rewards earned at the pharmacy. See ExtraCare terms and conditions for details.

You can send available deals and coupons to your ExtraCare card from CVS.com®, the CVS Pharmacy® mobile app, digital receipts and CVS Pharmacy emails. Click on the Send to Card® icon and look for the success indicator on the landing page to ensure it was loaded properly. To use it, purchase the necessary items the coupon is valid for and ensure your ExtraCare card is scanned.

Yes, CVS accepts valid manufacturer coupons. Only one manufacturer coupon may be used per qualifying item unless otherwise stated by coupon. We honor manufacturer limitations. Exclusions are displayed on the coupons.

No, CVS does not accept expired coupons. Expired coupons cannot be reissued; they must be used before their expiration date.

Yes, we allow customers to use certain coupons together on a single item.
Examples:

  • You can use both a manufacturer coupon and a CVS coupon on the same item.
  • Two (2) CVS $3 off $15 coupons can be used on purchases that are $30.00 or higher.

If multiple coupons are used on items, CVS reserves the right to process coupons in any order. However, percent-off coupons generally will be applied last.

ExtraBucks Rewards® can be applied to almost anything, provided the item price hasn’t been previously discounted to $0 with other coupons.

CVS does allow coupon matchups. Most coupons can be used on sale-priced items, provided the coupon qualifications are met. Percent-off coupons generally cannot be used on sale-priced items but would still apply to qualifying non-sale-priced items in your basket.

Unless otherwise indicated, there is no set limit. However, store managers reserve the right to set discretionary limits on specific items being purchased to ensure there are enough of those items for other customers.

Percent‐off coupons may be used on nonpromotional/non-sale items. Exclusions are displayed on each of the coupons. If multiple coupons are used on items, percent-off coupons generally will be applied last. However, CVS reserves the right to process coupons in any order.

CRT coupons are coupons that appear only on the cash register tape or printed receipt. ExtraCare members can access the same coupons on the CVS website or in the CVS Pharmacy® app.

Fraudulent use of coupons may include, but is not limited to, use of counterfeit coupons, using the same coupon more than once, attempts to exploit system glitches and noncompliance with ExtraCare terms and conditions. Any fraud or abuse of CVS coupons may, at the sole discretion of CVS, result in the termination of your CVS account(s).

Coupons and offers are limited to one per customer unless otherwise stated. ExtraCare accounts are limited to one per person. Using multiple accounts to exceed limits on coupons and offers is not permitted. Any fraud or abuse of coupons may, in CVS's sole discretion, result in the termination of CVS accounts.

Generally, your ExtraBucks Rewards will be reissued to your account if they were used towards the purchase of an item that is returned.

You may still use the coupon. However, its value will drop down to the value of the price of the item you are purchasing.
Example:

  • A $5 coupon for a $4.99 item will result in a $4.99 coupon value.

No, except in certain cases. You can use percent-off coupons on BOGO items, but the percent-off coupon will only work on the nonqualifying item.
Example:

  • Pantene shampoos are currently offering a “Buy 1, get 1 free” promotion.
  • A customer purchases three Pantene shampoos and has a percent-off coupon for Pantene shampoos.
  • The percent-off coupon may be used on the third bottle of shampoo only.

Funded manufacturer (mfr.) coupons will generally calculate sales tax on the pre‐coupon price of the item, as required by state law.* In addition, sales tax is calculated on CVS Pharmacy® issued manufacturer coupons on the pre‐coupon price of the item — i.e., coupons designated as “mfr.” on the face of the coupon and on your receipt. However, if the coupon is issued by CVS Pharmacy (ExtraBucks Rewards® plus ExtraCare coupons, which includes those from the ExtraCare Coupon Center and the weekly ad), the coupon is generally deemed a retailer coupon and the sales tax is calculated on the discounted price of the item (after the coupon is applied), as required by state law.

Yes. Although CVS Pharmacy® reserves the right to determine the processing order of its issued retailer coupons (including coupons, ExtraBucks Rewards® and weekly ad offers), individual state tax laws govern the processing order of retailer coupons versus funded manufacturer coupons.

  • *FOR PSEUDOEPHEDRINE: Cough & cold and allergy medications containing pseudoephedrine or ephedrine and items limited by law are subject to federal and state purchase restrictions and limits.

  • *FOR STATE TAX: Sales tax is calculated on the discounted price of the item (after the manufacturer coupon is applied) in the following states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Texas.
