Build a care package

Delivering far more than packages every day

Meet Al, a UPS delivery driver and cancer survivor who went out of his way to help one woman on his route, Allie, during her own battle with cancer. Watch this short video and build wellness care packages to support your own delivery drivers’ health during the holidays.

Al Rodriguez: We are at my UPS hub in Maspeth. In the holidays, we work definitely longer shifts. It's crazy, but it's good.

Allie Olson: A while back, I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. CVS had to deliver these really important drugs that I needed to survive, and to get through chemo.

Al Rodriguez: Well, it started when I met her on my route, when I delivered, it's actually a CVS package, to her.

Allie Olson: We passed each other in the hall, and I said, "Al, thank you so much for delivering these. I was really worried that I wouldn't get them in time." And he was like, "Oh no, I got you." He said, "I've survived cancer." And I was like, "You have?!" Al really helped me through a tough time in my life.

Al Rodriguez: You know, I knew she was going through something, and just wanted to be there for her, 'cause I know when I went through what I went through, I would like that as well.
I love what I do. I get to know and meet different people.
I tell my wife to call me the mayor of Bushwick. 'Cause I talk to everybody over there.
I love my job, man. I really, you know, enjoy what I do over here. They rely on us every day. You know, we're important to the community.

Allie Olson: He started bringing my packages up. If I wasn't here, he would leave me notes, which I would always keep on my fridge. Being diagnosed with cancer ended up being my worst best year ever, because a really special person came into my life during that time, that I'm very grateful for.

Allie Olson: Ta-da!

Al Rodriguez: When it comes down to it, all we have, really, is our health. It's important. When I'm on the road, I'm always eating snacks like pretzels, chocolate. Gatorade is good, water is good for me. Gotta try to stay hydrated.

Allie Olson: The delivery drivers like Al, they make things run.

CVS Employee: Al, this is a gift to you from CVS for all of the hard work that you do.

[Al is handed a gift box filled with wellness items and a thank you card.]

Al Rodriguez: Thank you, guys. Man, you guys are amazing.

Allie Olson: They go non-stop. Their wellness is of the utmost importance.

Allie Olson: You know, we're gonna be friends forever. I hope.

Eric Acosta, Al’s childhood friend and seasonal UPS helper: The community loves him. We love him. That's A-Rod for us. Wellness for me is, it's what Al is.
