Does MinuteClinic take Medicare and Medicaid?
Yes, MinuteClinic takes most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
CVS Health, the parent company of MinuteClinic, has always worked to meet the needs of Medicare and Medicaid members. In fact, we’ve been a market leader in Medicare management since 2006.
From the very beginning, we’ve helped people navigate the complexities and constant changes of Medicare and Medicaid. As a result, we’ve always delivered quality care and cost savings to our clients and patients across all CVS Health businesses, including MinuteClinic.
What is Medicare?
Medicare is a U.S. government health care program. Medicare provides health care for:
- Anyone aged 65 years or older who has paid into Social Security for at least 10 years
- Permanently disabled people of any age who have received Social Security benefits for at least 2 years
- People who have end-stage renal disease (ESRD – kidney failure) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease)
Medicare covers many basic health services, including physician and hospitalization services along with prescription drugs. Medicare has different parts that cover a variety of services. The four parts of Medicare are:
Medicare Part A (hospital insurance): This covers care when you are in a hospital, hospice or skilled nursing facility. It also covers some home nursing care.
Medicare Part B (medical insurance): This applies to outpatient care, physicians as well as preventive services and medical supplies.
Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage): This typically covers the care in Parts A and B but can also have additional benefits. It may include dental, vision and hearing services. You must get Part C through an approved private insurance company.
Medicare Part D (prescription drugs): This covers prescription drugs as well as recommended shots and vaccines. Like Part C, you must also get this through an approved private insurance company.

What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a public program that provides health insurance to low-income people in the United States. You and your family can only receive Medicaid if you meet specific, income-based requirements.
Medicaid is also a joint federal and state program, but it operates at the state level. This means how Medicaid works and what it covers will be different from state to state. Don’t wait. Find out now about renewing your coverage at Medicaid.gov.
What is the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?
Medicare and Medicaid are two distinct federal programs. Different sectors of the U.S. government fund and operate each program. They also serve two different groups of people.
Medicare provides health care assistance regardless of income. Anyone 65 years of age and older or people under 65 with disabilities and certain medical conditions can have Medicare. On the other hand, Medicaid provides health coverage to people with low incomes. However, it is possible for someone to be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
The differences between Medicare and Medicaid also extend to cost-sharing and the health services they cover. The specific rules and details of each program can be complicated. For more details, you can always visit the CVS Medicare Center Medicare Information page. You can also get information on Medicare directly from the government by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. For Medicaid, get in touch with your local Medicaid office for the most up-to-date information.
