What can I expect when seeking a Sports Physicals at MinuteClinic in ASHEVILLE, NC

MinuteClinic’s nurse practitioners and physician assistants are qualified to perform sports physicals for teens and kids. When your little one wants to join a sports team, they will likely need to take a PPE (pre-participation physical examination). This is normally required in part of registering youths for participation in a sport. What is a Sports Physical?

During your child’s visit for a sports physical, you can expect a few things to happen. Our staff will first review the athlete and the family’s medical history as well as review any prescriptions or dietary supplements. The physician assistant will then do a general physical exam to check the ears, nose, throat, heart, lungs, and abdomen as well as take a height and weight measurement. Then, they will do a vision check. Your child will get their blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate checked. Once that is done, they will have their flexibility, joints, posture, and strength assessed. To finish off the physical, a urine test will be taken to screen for indicators of any underlying medical conditions such as diabetes. Prior to your visit, make sure that you have the necessary forms to bring with you. You will need to know relevant health and medical history, including any allergies, current medications, existing medical conditions, immunization records, and the athlete’s primary care provider's name and contact info.
